DO NOT STAND TOO CLOSE

In DO NOT STAND TOO CLOSE we meet the pathologically self-obsessed, who in their need for validation end up in the outskirts of society.

Personality disorders and mental disorders have become commonplace, and the web is flooded with people sharing their personal experiences.

These testimonies, freely combined with clips from reality TV and the occasional soap opera, are the starting point for Do Not Stand Too Close.

Through a sustained idiom, epic music from Metteson/Junker, and a spoken language that holds nothing back, Haagenrud aims to illustrate the existential need to reflect ourselves in the eyes of others.

Can classical ballet be revitalized? The classical idiom was developed at a time when the public was familiar with the narrative style and could thus "read" what they saw. In recent years, Haagenrud has developed a gestural idiom often linked to text and speech, and will here continue the idea behind the classic storytelling tradition and transform it so that the language conveys a story about and for people of today.
